RESTYLANE/JUVÉDERM™ Injectible Gel

Restylane and JUVÉDERM™ Injectible Gel are dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in our skin.  They can dramatically improve the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles as well as enhance the fullness in lips.  The results are visible immediately and last for months.  Because these fillers are not animal-based, no testing is required prior to injection.

As with all procedures done in the office, Restylane and JUVÉDERM™ Injectible Gel treatments are done by Dr. Shibayama personally to ensure optimal safety and results.

How are dermal fillers different from Botox, and can they be used together?
Botox treats dynamic wrinkles, those that form with muscle movement.  It works by relaxing those muscles.  Restylane and JUVÉDERM™ Injectible Gel treat static lines and wrinkles, those that are present when the facial muscles are at rest.  It works by filling in those lines.  The combination of fillers and Botox  together provides the ultimate, beautiful, natural result.

Are dermal fillers safe?
Older formulations of dermal fillers such as collagen are made from animals and require allergy testing prior to every injection.  Because Restylane is made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid, there is very little chance of an allergic reaction so no pre-testing is required.

What areas can be treated?
The most popular treatment areas are the lines around the nose and drooping corners of the mouth, and of course the plumping of the lips.  Fillers are also used to treat vertical forehead lines and to fill in scars.

What can I expect during and after a treatment?
Because the product is a gel, it can be a little more uncomfortable during injection.  We offer many different options for anesthesia, including dental blocks, topical anesthetics, and ice packs.  After anesthesia,  the filler is injected into the area to be treated with a tiny needle.  Mild bruising and swelling is to be expected but will resolve within a few days.  Results are immediately visible!

How long will the results last?
Augmentation of the lips generally last 6 months.  In areas where thicker formulations of hyaluronic acid are used, results can last 6-12 months.
