FACIAL REDNESS, VESSELS, AND ROSACEA
Rosacea is a
common, chronic skin condition that causes redness and inflammation
of the face. It is usually found on the cheeks and nose but can
also affect the forehead and chin. Enlarged vessels and capillaries
are often visible. Patients complain that they “blush” easily and
will have intense flushing after a shower or exercise. With our IPL
photofacial treatments, at last the embarrassing flushing and
redness of rosacea can be treated. Patients will also note that
their sunspots also fade. Although the treatments are not
specifically designed to treat pore size, many report that they
notice an improvement in not only pore size but tone and texture as
well. The treatments are gentle, safe, and effective, with little
down time.
Unlike at medi-spas
and most doctor’s offices, Dr. Shibayama insists on evaluating and
performing all photofacials herself for optimal safety and
effectiveness.
What areas can
be treated?
The most commonly requested areas are the face, neck, and
chest. Dr. Shibayama will customize a treatment plan according to
your skin type.
What is the
treatment like?
The skin is first cleansed. The laser is then passed gently
over the skin. Our revolutionary cooling tip keeps the skin cool
and comfortable before, during, and after the pulsed light is
emitted. Patients often describe the sensation as similar to a
mild rubber band snap against the skin. Treatments are quick--a
full face photofacial takes about 15 minutes. Afterwards there is
some redness and a sunburn like sensation for a few hours up to a
few days. Normal activities can be resumed immediately and makeup
can be applied although sunscreen is recommended on the treated
areas.
How many
treatments are needed?
In general 3-5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart are recommended
for optimal reduction in redness. The results will last for months
to years, depending on compliance with the use of sunscreens. A
broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen will protect your investment for a
longer time. With redness and rosacea an occasional (once or twice
a year) touch up may be beneficial.
All procedures
are performed by Dr. Shibayama.
